Manufacturing Solutions

Frequently Asked Questions. (And the Frequently Given Answers.)

Why, after more than 20 years, is Canon Virginia, Inc. providing its manufacturing solutions to other companies?
The real question is, “Why not?” We have the experience, the capability and the desire.

Why should I choose Canon Virginia over the overseas company I have been using?
Our commitment to domestic production allows our customers to overcome the inherent difficulties of offshore manufacturing such as communication barriers, travel and supply chain. What it costs is what it costs—there are no hidden charges. It also helps in the protection of intellectual property, a growing concern among today’s OEMs.

What kind of experience does Canon Virginia have in product manufacturing or mold making for areas outside of their expertise?
Although Canon has made its name manufacturing cameras, printers and other consumer/business electronics, our experience makes us ideally suited to partner with just about any company looking for a contract manufacturer.

I'm a small company and Canon's huge. What kind of service am I going to get?
Each customer receives dedicated customer service through a cross-functional team comprised of engineering, manufacturing, program management and product planning. A program manager leads this team and acts as a single point contact and liaison for you, our customer. We work closely with our customer to assure we meet all of your expectations throughout the product life cycle.

Why are you located in Virginia?
Our convenient location in Southeastern Virginia strategically places us close to national transportation infrastructure—major ports, railroad lines and interstate highways. We can provide one-day delivery to customers and major markets east of the Mississippi and rapid service to any other location in the United States.

Will the same highly skilled people who work on Canon products work on mine?
Yes. With Canon Virginia, you get everything that comes with the Canon name. Your product or mold will be produced in the same one-million-square-foot facility as ours, by the same 1,400 people whom we consider to be among the best in the business.

Why are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications important?
While the two certifications are entirely different (ISO 9001 certification focuses on quality management and ISO 14001 certification focuses on environmental standards), both are proof that any company you are looking to work with has met strict international standards. ISO certification also goes a long way toward showing a company’s commitment—to itself, to its product and to its customers.
