Company History

We have called the Virginia Peninsula home for almost 30 years. 

We are proud of the positive impact our efforts that have had on the local community, citizens, and environment. We are honored to make Hampton Roads our home and to share our company’s history and success.

1985 - 1990
1985 Canon Virginia, Inc. is registered as a corporation
  Mr. Shin-Ichiro Nagashima named President and CEO
1986 Ground breaking and construction began on Newport News site, first employees hired
1987 First shipment of NP3000 series copies
  Ground breaking and begin construction for Toner plant
1988 Laser Beam Printer production started with first shipment in March
  Toner cartridge production began
1991 - 1995
1991 First shipment of NP European model copier, cartridge production reached 5 million
1992 Copier remanufacturing began
1993 10 million cartridges produced
  CVI received ISO 9002 certification
1994 Mr. Michiaki Matsuo named President and CEO
1995 Custom Integrated Technology, Inc. Incorporated
  CVI celebrated 10 year anniversary
1996 - 2000
1997 Canon Environmental Technologies, Inc. (CETI) in Gloucester opens
1998 CVI received ISO 14001 certification
1999 Mr. Kenji Mori named President and CEO
2000 First shipment of C-82 cartridges
  Last conveyor removed, Production Innovation implemented
  Implemented Foreign Trade Zone status, Closed Loop Cartridge manufacturing began
  CVI celebrated 15 year anniversary
2001 - 2005
2001 Toner recycling program began at CETI
2002 Initiated refurbishing of Canon consumer products
2003 Mr. Takayoshi Hanagata named President and CEO
2004 Initiated return center operations for Canon USA
  Completed new tool manufacturing facility and first tool produced
2005 CVI celebrated 20 year Anniversary
2006 - 2010
2006 CVI announced contract manufacturing and mold making business
2007 Announced partnership with Christopher Newport University for Canon Leadership Scholars Program
  Implemented refurbishment program for Canon camera and lens products
2008 CVI and CETI announced expansions
2009 Grand opening of the Advanced Cartridge Manufacturing (ACM) building
2010 Mr. Yusaku Azuma named President and CEO
  Research & Development activities began
  CVI celebrated 25 year anniversary
2011 - present
2011 Canon Life Sciences and CVI began collaboration on new research and development project
  CVI named founding member of Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM)
2012 Mr. Toru Nishizawa named President and CEO
2013 HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) recycling begins at CETI
